Lori Maloney Portrait Photography

Lori Maloney Portrait Photography

Hi, my name is Lori Maloney and I’m a Calgary based photographer whose chosen niche is women’s portraiture. I first opened my photography business in 2010, then called Bella Faccia Photography, and was happily providing general portraiture including newborns, families, and the odd wedding. It was work I enjoyed but something bigger was in store…

In 2011 a past client provided a referral that would become a catalyst moment in my business. This new client was a woman who was going to be competing in a fitness competition and wanted photographs taken on 'the day of' to capture her accomplishment and hard work. We found a space near the judging hall so that we could shoot in between her call times. It was such a fun few hours, with both of us wholly engaged in creating beautiful photographs honouring her journey. The energy, the camaraderie, the collaboration, the empowerment - I loved every single thing about the experience!

In the weeks and months after that session, I pondered all I’d loved about the experience - working with women, working 1:1, the goodwill in the room, not dealing with impatient family members, no mosquitoes... lol - and I also began to more fully realize a truth I’d long known but that hadn’t yet crystallized into action for me: that I’d wished my mom, who'd died many years earlier at age 52 from cancer, had had a portrait SHE loved that we could use in her obituary. Those two experiences helped galvanize for me that: every woman deserves a portrait she loves.

In 2012 I built my studio and have actively pursued working with women since, including women who are facing or have faced serious illness. My goal is to meet HER where SHE is… some would like to celebrate a milestone, others are facing a diagnosis or treatment, some are weathering a divorce, and some ’simply’ (in quotes because it’s actually profound!) want a portrait they feel proud of to pass down to future generations. Every genre has its own beauty + power (headshots, boudoir, branding…) and I LOVE being able to collaborate with each client to ensure we are creating an experience that’s fun, lighthearted, meaningful, empowering AND that results in portraits she loves.

In 2018 I amalgamated Bella Faccia Photography and Bella Forza Portraits (the division launched in 2013 that was dedicated to women facing serious illness) and rebranded the whole shebang to Lori Maloney Photography for simplicity’s sake; my mission, though, remains as passionate and focused as ever: empowering women through photography!

My genuine thanks to Ned for so generously providing this opportunity to share my work on his site!
